«In a victory for geneticists, evolutionists, and activists alike, the lesbian gene has finally been isolated in a laboratory setting at the Pearce University. Human rights activists are using this as leverage for marriage equality and to try to combat the stigma still surrounding the LGBT community. For some researchers, the debate has just begun.
“We are now trying to understand what this means from an evolutionary perspective,” says the principal investigator, Dr. Lee Rayson.
There are two major hypotheses at play. The first is that lesbianism is a genetic mutation that has only relatively recently been allowed to propagate as homosexuality has gained more acceptance over the past couple of centuries. “Until recently, women were required to marry in order to live in society as they could not work for their own salary,” says Dr. Richard Boehmer from St. Calendross University, “now we have let sex-dependent mutations such as lesbianism to permeate the population at exponential rates and the environment of modern society is letting those genes express themselves.”
“Sure lesbianism is a genetic mutation, but so are blue eyes,” says Dr. Sasha Bowen from Marigold University. “We have to consider that the promulgation of the gene could be a survival mechanism among females in our species.”
Dr. Bowen’s hypothesis rests on the fact that 1 in 3 women are attacked by a man in their lifetime and men are the greatest external threat to their survival.»
